​Many organizations are emerging from COVID-19 shutdowns and reorganizations with a stronger learning culture and heavier reliance on eLearning.

At the same time, amid layoffs, significant changes in workflow and process, and, for many, the challenges of juggling remote work with childcare, workers are feeling the effects of the time famine more than ever.

More than half — 56% — of L&D professionals that LinkedIn surveyed in May agreed that their organizations’ learning culture was stronger than pre-COVID — just a few months earlier! The new focus on learning reflects a significant top-down shift in just six months. In October 2019, just 27% of L&D professionals felt that their CEOs championed a learning culture; in May 2020, 70% did.

With more remote workers and dictates to keep employees physically separated even in the office, though, classroom-based instructor-led training (ILT) is giving way to online learning. Large majorities of L&D professionals are increasing the amount of virtual ILT and fully online learning in both their short- and long-term planning, while most are trimming in-person training.
